AI for Pros: Navigating the Ever-Evolving Landscape of Artificial Intelligence in Business and Employment

A Note From Malcolm

Concerns over Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) were heightened this week when a former OpenAI researcher, in a 165 page report, warned that machines may become sentient as soon as 2027.

Many have warned about AGI, but most of us have been lulled into a sense of complacency (or blissful ignorance) believing its arrival was still decades away, if ever.

But what if self-determining hyper-intelligent machines are almost here?

Tim Urban (of Wait But Why fame) characterized the issue with this iconic cartoon; that we’re at the edge of an innovation window for which we have no current models or historical precedent. We humans likely won’t be able to understand how AGI arrived at its conclusions and won’t be able to compete with the business (and defense) strategies AGI comes up with.

Might this be one of the reasons that OpenAI has expanded its lobbying team ten-fold in the last year?

And where is this leading all of us?

With that lens, here are some highlights from the past week at the intersection of enterprise AI and work:

And one more thing…
