2024, the year of national elections, is heating up. Indians selected Narenda Modi for a third term, and in Mexico Claudia Sheinbaum made history as the country’s first female president. Next up is the UK, with a July 4th general election. And in the US it feels like the presidential campaign truly got going last week with the Trump NY trial verdict.  

This newsletter will stay out of the political fray - not our thing. But we saw a parallel between the reaction to the Trump court case and AI developments; two people can look at the same issue and come to wildly different, and very emotional, conclusions.  

For example, will GenAI usher in the next Industrial Revolution or is it just more Silicon Valley-led hyperbole? Enhance our jobs or take them? Distribute power more fairly or concentrate it further? Provide transparency or take misinformation to a whole new level?  

The answer to all these questions is “Yes.” But the insight, and value for you, is the nuance as things continue to unfold.  

With that lens, here are some highlights from the past week at the intersection of enterprise AI and work:

PWC becomes OpenAI’s first reseller and largest enterprise user

PWC will hand user licenses to over 100,000 employees to bring “AI transformation to clients, complementing…audit, tax and consulting services with a broad array of business and industry solutions.”  

End of the SaaS era? Salesforce stock tanks.

Tom Seibel has a view: “These guys have technology stacks that they built literally in the last century…What they do is they’ve taken an AI sticker and put it on the front of their box. I’m not really sure that dog hunts.”

Sony Pictures is embracing AI to cut costs

CEO Tony Vinciquerra: “We’ll be looking at ways to use AI to produce films for theaters and television in more efficient ways.”

AI image misinformation has surged: Google study
