It’s commencement season: time for new beginnings, boring speeches, funny robes…and fewer jobs.  

The Class of ‘24 is facing 6% fewer opportunities than last year’s graduates.  And when one accounts for full-time jobs vs. part-time, the numbers are even more concerning.  

What gives? It’s a combination of the economy, an easing of the Great Resignation and the initial impact of AI (which is starting to hit entry-level roles hard). But we’re also consistently hearing a mismatch between employers and the academy. The former are clear: they want skills, much more than a well-rounded education. And we’re seeing the same phenomenon for experienced talent, as most employers are placing a premium on tech-centric skills proficiency and (candidly) don’t really care where you went to school.  

With that lens,here are some highlights from the past week at the intersection of enterprise AI and work:

Tech workers retool for AI boom
