This past week, science had its Sputnik moment.  

Demis Hassabis and Geoffrey Hinton were awarded Nobel Prizes in chemistry and physics, respectively.  These computer scientists are outsiders to these disciplines, but armed with AI they were recognized for the year’s most groundbreaking achievements.  

These wins mark more than personal achievements; they signal a shift in scientific priorities.  While some see the combination of researcher + AI as exciting progress, others worry that AI might overshadow (or eliminate) future brilliant researchers.  And if prospective Nobel laureates can’t keep pace with AI, what will that mean for the rest of us?
