Software developers were first to embed AI deeply into their work, and for a while it was tempting to think they'd be the only ones. Their work, after all, was ready-made for AI: the inputs are digital, the output is testable, the workflows have largely become standardized. So Andrej Karpathy coined "vibe coding" last year as he recognized devs were leveraging AI to write large portions of code, liberating them to conduct things; setting the intent, nudging the machine until the result felt right. To, yes, feel the vibe.

The sector exploded, with massive growth from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Replit, Lovable, et. al.  For a time it felt this would be contained to nerdom, while everybody else in the office used AI as glorified search.

Until the past few months.

Vibe coding is now expanding into vibe working. That is, accountants, designers, marketers, sales pros, lawyers, etc., are looking to embed AI into their workflows as well: the proposal drafted from the past winning proposals, the diligence memo assembled across twenty sources, the client brief that reflects the new scenarios they mentioned, the model updated before the morning meeting.

How quickly is this taking hold? Microsoft reports active Microsoft 365 agents grew 15x year over year and even faster in large companies. Anthropic likewise found computing tasks accounted for 46% of enterprise API traffic, but office and administrative work has now reached 13%. And the largest shift may be with OpenAI; in the last six months weekly Codex users have grown over 40-fold in legal, sales and recruiting and over 25-fold in marketing.
