This isn’t about what we want anymore

AI’s workforce revolution: from cost-cutting layoffs to billion-dollar booms—and the workers, companies, and economies caught in between.

This isn’t about what we want anymore

Over a decade ago, Kevin Kelly—founding editor of Wired and professional seer of tech futures—famously noted it’s best to focus on what technology wants.

Not what you or I want…or what our customers, bosses, investors, or legislators want. But technology itself.

Today, his perspective has proven prophetic. AI hasn’t reached AGI yet, but it’s already hit escape velocity—its capabilities and user base are growing at a geometric pace. The genie’s out of the bottle, and there’s no putting it back.

We’re now along for the ride. A wild and weird one. And for the “simply unplug it” crowd? Too late.

The winning strategy is to structure our work, workflows, organizations, and products around what AI actually does best—not what we hope it will, but what it inevitably will.
